The Hochkoenig ski area is literally steps away with the Sonnleiten lift only 30m from the door. There are 150 km of great skiing in Hochkoenig itself, and other ski resorts like Saalbach-Hinterglem and Zell am See are close by. The Kitzsteinhorn glacier is available for out-of-season skiing. You can see the current ski lifts and slopes open here. The fans of cross country skiing will be also very happy in Hinterthal with a nice groomed course for skate or classic. There are several cool places to enjoy your apres ski time with traditional Austrian schnapps or Gluhwein. Maria Alm is a town few kilometers by bus or car (or skis) from Hinterthal where you can find even more restaurants, nightlife and a bit of shopping. Maria Alm also has a traditional alpine feel and seems to perpetually have some sort of festival or happening going on.

In summer, the region boasts fabulous hiking and biking terrain and 3 golf courses within a 20 minute drive. There are great summer festivals in the Salzburg region and a lot of natural and cultural activities to enjoy.
